Step 2: Develop

What to Consider?

"My Action Plan" | Go do it!

  • The “Develop” section of your Action Plan is where you’ll take the time to write the progression of your action plan throughout the year. There are two primary sections of the development: Reflections and Pitches. The reflections will go in tandem with your pitching.

  • A reflection is a review of the work you have accomplished. We understand that projects take time and effort, and maybe not a whole lot has happened since you first implement your project--It doesn’t matter--we want to hear it all! We want to know where you’ve succeeded and where you’re still improving. Being able to see your progress is key!

  • See the “Crafting a Pitch” section for an in-depth look at how to pitch.

Successful people begin with two beliefs: the future can be better than the present, and I have the power to make it so.

REFLECTION 1: Research & Pitch
DUE: November 15th

  • Once you’re back in school you will need to do on-the-ground tangible research to ensure your project is S.M.A.R.T. Research will serve two purposes: One, to ensure you have gathered enough evidence to prove your project is possible. Second, to be able to Pitch “Ask Permission”.

*Once your Research is complete, make sure to go back to the GSA website and fill in the “REFLECTION 1: Section One: Research” segment.

  • Once you have completed your research, now you are ready to sell your idea! Your pitch should be given to two groups of people: administrators, teachers & your peers. This will serve two purposes: For your administrators and teachers this will be an explanation of lessons learned during your research backed by evidence, and relay how you plan to implement your project while evaluating short-term vs long-term impact. This will also serve as getting permission.

Remember If you are unable answer basic questions about your project it will seem unplanned thus jeopardize your project. For your peers this is a way to recruit and create hype. Regardless of your audience, creating an elevator pitch will force you to consolidate the inspiration, intent and impact of your plan.

*Once your Pitch is completed, make sure to go back to the GSA website and fill in the “REFLECTION 1: Section two: Pitch” segment.

REFLECTION 2: Expansion & Update
DUE: February 15th

  • This is your second check-in. By now, you should have a clear understanding of what your AP is and where it is headed. Through your expansion, you will review how your AP has progressed and changed. *TIP: Use the questions in “Reflection 2: Section One: Expansion” to guide you through your “Update” pitch.

*Once your Expansion is completed, make sure to go back to the GSA website and fill in the “REFLECTION 2: Section One: Expansion” segment.

  • Now that you have been working on your AP for the last three months it’s time to give your audience an update on the progress of your project and hear their feedback. Use the tools you gained through the “research and pitch section” to really speak confidently on your project. Use your audience's feedback to your advantage to set new goals and ensure you’re on the right track.

*Once your Update is completed, make sure to go back to the GSA website and fill in the “REFLECTION 2: Section two: Update” segment.

REFLECTION 3: Wrap Up
DUE: May 15th

  • By now your AP should be coming to a close. This final reflection allows you to evaluate your AP’s impact as well as make any last minute changes. Reflect on what went well, what still needs improvement and what you’ve learned. All of this will help you write your projects summary and will aid other students on best practices when constructing an AP like yours.

*Once your Wrap Up is completed, make sure to go back to the GSA website and fill in the “REFLECTION 3: Wrap Up” segment.
