“I am drawn to the wild not because it is wise, but because it is sensible, logical, ordered, stable, resilient. Wild nature is everything we’re struggling to regain.” - Dr. Carl Safina
2024 - Jash Modi
Jash Modi came to Sc3 in 2023 with Dr. Biswajit De (Jeet) as a student fellow. During that summer he built community with his lodge group and roommate, helped lead his OST group to an impressive deliverable, and– above and beyond that– he also gave a formal presentation in the auditorium to the whole congress.
Outside of Sc3, Jash’s exceptional contribution in mobilizing the students of rural government schools in the Forest communities state of Arunachal Pradesh, India, is inspiring to us all. In addition to being a mentor at Sc3, he also acts as a student mentor for Wildroots India, the only nonprofit directly funded by the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication, and has encouraged more than 10 schools to participate in activities related to climate and conservation awareness.
His dedication to Sc3 is clear through just his presence at NCTC, which is no small feat since Jash’s home is in Mumbai. Among his many contributions to Sc3 2024, his Bollywood dancing rates near the top. As Jash is only 15, we can’t wait to see what he does next and we hope that he continues to share his enthusiasm and talents with the Sc3 community!
