Back To School And Giving Back

79077a1803cdd95301ba64d7e1b56179-huge-scSeptember is a hectic time of month for my family.  We live in the Northeast and school typically starts after Labor Day.  However, the planning for back to school starts much earlier with the “back to school supplies” shopping list. With a kindergartener and a 7th grader, the lists span from crayons to a scientific calculator, as well as tissues, hand sanitizer, and generic classroom supplies.  Supporting my children’s classrooms and schools is very important to me because I want their teachers to be able to focus on educating their students and not have to worry about whether or not there are enough tissues in the classroom when a cold or allergies hit.

It is also a struggle to not feel stretched because there are so many “asks” at the beginning of the school year - new sneakers, new backpacks, new supplies for sports or after school activities, PTO fundraisers, classroom supplies…  I feel like a human ATM!  That said, it is important to me and my family that we give back when we can and when we are able.  There are many ways to “give back” to our community - we do so by donating old toys and clothing we no longer use, we volunteer our time, and we also support organizations and causes that are meaningful to us with a monetary gift.

There are many different ways that you can support Green Schools Alliance - we even have this fun list to help get you started. We are always adding to it, so please share your ideas with us!

Have a story to share about how you, your family, friends, and/or colleagues have made a difference?  Let us know - we would love to hear about it!
