Coordinated and presented by some of the nation’s leading energy and sustainability experts, GSA Workshops were developed to help school communities to implement sustainable, Energy-Smart solutions today. They connect national, state and local, public/private partners with school communities to develop programs that meet school needs, while maximizing the environmental benefits to the greatest number.
GSA Workshops combine education and action to address the complex environmental problems of our times and, like all of our programs, are designed to create measurable results in reducing our school’s aggregate environmental footprint.
GSA’s integrated Programs are intended to help schools to:
BUILD a critical mass that unites our individual concerns into collective action.
CREATE a framework that encourages and supports the goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2020.
EDUCATE the broadest range of stakeholders about the environmental issues facing our world and the benefits of making sustainable choices.
INSPIRE environmental stewardship, personal responsibility, leadership & cooperation.
EMPOWER our school communities to become part of the environmental solution.
Trains school decision makers about strategies that directly impact their building’s energy use and management. The workshops bring community-based no-cost/low-cost energy resources to the attention of school decision makers. This series of technical workshops will provide school administrators, facility managers, educators and others with information and training on strategies and products affecting the building’s shell (windows, green roofs, and solar systems), core (heating and ventilating equipment, and lighting systems), energy management activities, and behavioral change. The workshops will focus on renovation and repair of existing buildings as well as the design and construction of new facilities.
Workshop Schedule: Coming Spring ’08 or upon request
Provides teachers with the resources they need to incorporate sustainability into their Pre-K to - grade 12 curriculum. The GSA Sustainable Education Workshops address a diverse audience about the environmental challenges of our times and the available resources to solve these problems. The workshops will provide teachers with classroom resources, background information, outside activities (such as science fairs) and the many educational opportunities provided by the design and operations of green schools. Hands-on training for educators and links to education resources and materials will provide K-12 classroom activities on energy fundamentals, efficiency and conservation, sources of energy, environmental impacts, and other current topics. Teachers will share successful classroom projects and activities on energy and environmental topics, including ways to use the school as a teaching tool and learning lab.
