About GSA Programs
GSA programs set goals, measure progress, share best practices, and inspire change by engaging the broadest range of stakeholders about the environmental issues facing our world and the benefits of making sustainable choices.
The GSA recognizes the leadership role that students and schools play to help solve our complex environmental challenges and protect our shared future. Through grassroots and institutional incentives that integrate education and action, GSA programs build confidence, inspire environmental stewardship, and help schools meet their climate and sustainability goals, while helping to mitigate unmanageable climate change.
GSA provides a menu of opportunities that engage all members of the school community -- students, administrators, faculty, plant managers, business officers and parents. GSA works in collaboration with public and private partnerships, government agencies and other organizations to provide an infrastructure and methodology that quantifies success and expedites change.
GSA recognizes that all schools are different and have unique needs, and provides a diverse menu of resource opportunities - both on and off-line - that support schools to meet their individual climate and sustainability goals. GSA invites ALL schools - public, private and independent - to participate in GSA programs. GSA programs fall under the following categories:
- Connecting People & Building Community
- Providing Resources & Creating Curriculum
- Developing Skills & Supporting Leadership
- Sharing Best Practices & Celebrating Progress
Students & Schools Become Leaders
Students work alongside faculty and administrators, to do everything from quantifying energy and resource consumption to restoring wetlands. If an environmental club doesn’t exist, students will form one. Schools connect in person and online to share knowledge and best practices. Through GSA’s programs, schools and students become global leaders in their own communities. GSA Programs:
- RECOGNIZE the leadership role that students and schools can play to help solve our complex environmental challenges
- INSPIRE environmental stewardship, personal responsibility, leadership and cooperation
- EMPOWER schools to be agents of environmental change in their own communities
- ENGAGE all school community stakeholders in the fight against global climate change
- INTEGRATE education and action through diverse grassroots and institutional incentive programs
- MOTIVATE school decision makers to make sustainability and climate issues a priority
- SET Goals, MEASURE results. CELEBRATE progress. INSPIRE change
- BUILD an interactive community for schools that helps maximize benefits, create momentum and gain critical mass
