Green Schools Alliance and Clinton Climate Initiative partner to support energy efficiency building retrofits in K to Grade 12 schools.

File 277The Green Schools Alliance (GSA) has partnered with the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) to support GSA schools in reducing the energy use of campus buildings by executing large-scale building retrofit projects. Reducing energy use in buildings is one of the most effective and economically advantageous ways to reduce a schools’ greenhouse gas emissions and take measurable steps towards achieving carbon reduction goals.

As part of the partnership, GSA schools can access the benefits of CCI’s Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program, including best practices contracting terms and advantageous pricing for energy efficient building technologies. For schools that want to take action and are able to support a project, CCI can provide pro bono support in planning, designing and implementing an energy efficient building retrofit project. In the upcoming months, the GSA and CCI will engage with a number of GSA schools in and around four U.S. cities (Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Houston) on retrofit projects.

CCI has worked with several schools around the world on large-scale retrofits. For example, The International School in Macau, China has completed the first phase of a two-phase retrofit project that is part of its campus-wide Going Green program. The retrofit, completed in late 2009, included energy savings measures and is currently reducing energy costs for the school by 35%. A second phase, which includes onsite renewable energy and other sustainability measures is planned.

The CCI Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program is currently working with Colleges and Universites in the United States, and through the GSA, is extending this program to support K-12 schools.

More information about CCI's Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program and how to work with CCI on a building retrofit project can be found  through the Clinton Foundation.  LEARN MORE >

The William J. Clinton Foundation launched the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) to create and advance solutions to the core issues driving climate change. Working with governments and businesses around the world, CCI focuses on three strategic program areas: increasing energy efficiency in cities, catalyzing the large-scale supply of clean energy, and working to stop deforestation.
