Student Climate & Conservation Congress (Sc3) is a resounding success

The U.S. Green Schools Fellows Program is the product of a new partnership between the Green
Schools Alliance and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife National Conservation Training Center (NCTC). The
Program will celebrate our nation’s next generation of environmental leaders and equip them with the
skills, tools and network needed to implement grassroots change and address the complex climate and
conservation challenges of our time. The Green Schools Alliance and the NCTC are offering this
opportunity to 100 of the country’s most environmentally active student leaders and 10 exceptional
school faculty or staff.

NATIONAL STUDENT CLIMATE & CONSERVATION CONGRESS

and U.S. GREEN SCHOOLS FELLOWS PROGRAM

Saturday, June 25 to Thursday, June 30, 2011

National Conservation Training Center

ABOUT THE FELLOWS

Schools are invited to nominate outstanding student environmental leaders from public, private and independent high schools across the United States. The selection process, led by a distinguished panel of students and faculty, is based on identifying those who have demonstrated leadership in their schools or communities [OUT: by working to make their schools more environmentally sustainable]. One hundred Student Fellows and twenty Faculty Fellows will be selected to attend Sc3.

ABOUT THE CONGRESS

The Green Schools Alliance (GSA) and the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have partnered to create this important program to empower students with the skills, knowledge and tools necessary to plant the seeds of change in their schools, homes and communities.

The 5-day Congress invites Sc3 Fellows to: connect with world-renowned environmental and economic experts, government leaders, scientists, and policy-makers; join substantial group discussions; and workshops and explore sustainable, energy-smart solutions that address energy efficiency and global climate change.

At Sc3, Fellows study and discuss the interconnection between economics and environment. They learn the practical skills needed to set sustainable, energy-smart goals and measure progress in their schools, homes or communities. Read more about the the experience HERE.

Fellows are immersed in the Sc3 program and develop individual and collective action plans to meet 21st century challenges. They return home with a new set of tools and a greater understanding of the interrelation between human economies and the natural environment, making them an even stronger force for sustainable change in their local community.

One century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt articulated a vision for a global conservation corps that would reach and motivate every corner of society – a call renewed by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. Sc3 Student Fellows return to their school communities to implement individual their “action plans” as part of a new Corps—Sc3—intended to realize this vision.
