Project Learning Tree Webinar for Greening Schools

Date and time:
Wed, 2012-02-01 16

The webinars will highlight GreenSchools! Investigations, and are designed to provide teachers, administrators, students, and other Green Team members with valuable information and tips on how to implement the GreenSchools! Investigations. We encourage school Green Teams to participate as a group.

The first webinar, Transforming Schools with GreenSchools! Energy Investigations, will take place on Wednesday, February 1, from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. EST. It will teach participants how ENERGY STAR tools can help schools improve energy efficiency, and how PLT GreenSchools! teams can make a difference on the ground by examining their school's energy use and implementing action plans to reduce energy impacts.

The February 1 webinar will feature speakers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Monarch School in Houston, Texas:

Caterina (Katy) Hatcher, ENERGY STAR National Manager for the Public Sector at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC, will discuss how students can help save energy in their school and at home, why this is important, and how saving energy helps protect the environment. Ms. Hatcher has been working with EPA for more than 15 years to help governments and schools improve energy efficiency through the use of ENERGY STAR tools and resources.

Richard Klein, Master Teacher at The Monarch School in Houston, Texas, and his Green Team will discuss their school's innovative outdoor environmental and science program, and will offer proven tips for using the GreenSchools! Energy Investigation, based on their success in reducing their school's energy impact on the environment while saving on energy costs.

The February 1 webinar and the other webinars in the series are completely free, made possible in part by generous funding from the U.S. Forest Service. To register and learn how to access the webinar, go to www.plt.org/webinars. If you have questions, contact Rachel Bayer at rbayer@plt.org.

Any teacher or educator interested in learning how to reduce energy use at their school is welcome to participate. We hope that you are able to join us on February 1.

The PLT GreenSchools! program also has grant funding available for registered schools. Find out more at http://www.plt.org/applyforagrant. Keep an eye out for information on three more GreenSchools! webinars to be held in March, April and May 2012.
